Rare to find, but at the same time a rare and delicious red Txakolina.

French Pinot Noir, Italian Bardolino, Austrian red, Bairrada from Portugal. Those who enjoy tasty, easy-drinking, crisp red wines will also be very well served here by the red Hiruzta Txakolina Tinto. Light-footed, playful, low in alcohol, smooth and delicious, even firmly chilled, very drinkable. The Hiruzta Txakolina Tinto is produced exclusively from the rare red variety Hondarribi Beltza (we learn about grape varieties every day) and from still young vines. Red Txakoli is still a rarity in terms of plantings, even in this region. The wine has lovely fresh red fruit notes such as sour cherry, strawberry, and cranberry. At the same time, it also has a spicy and peppery character. The taste is light to medium-bodied, with fine, slightly dusty tannins. A touch of earthiness, that same fresh, acidic fruit as in the aroma complemented by some minty notes. It dances around the tongue! Yummy!

    Hiruzta

Hiruzta is a young family business in the Basque Country. This means ‘a harvest by three people’, namely that of father Asensio Rekalde and his sons Txarli and Angel. Immediately after the village of Hondarribia was accepted into the D.O. Txakolí de Getaria within the DO, the family purchased vineyards here. Their first wines came onto the market in 2011. Meanwhile, Hiruzta is one of the best-performing houses in the region. Their wines are already sold in more than 20 countries. The grape juice is fermented with indigenous yeasts. When fermentation is complete, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels. The wine ages in these for 6 months and matures for six months in used French oak barrels for some roundness.

Originating from the municipality of Hondarribia in the DO Getariako Txakolina in the Basque Country, literally right on the French border. The vineyards are situated on the slopes of Mount Jaizkibel, the westernmost peak of the Pyrenees. This slope protects the vineyards from wind and moisture from the Cantabrian Sea. The vineyards face southwest, on thick, stony soil rich in clay and marl. The vines are guided upwards using posts and wire, the so-called Trellis or Pergola planting method. This is done to promote airflow, prevent high humidity, and capture more sunlight.
