Recently, on a wine trip in Rheinhessen (Germany), we discovered a very friendly winery with the sonorous name Geil! Certainly the perfect name to make delicious, exciting wines; in any case, the full name is: Weingut Oekonomierat Johann Geil I. Erben but that didn't fit on the label, so it just became simply "Geil". In any case, we got pretty excited by the wines they made there. Here we have the Weingut Geil Weisser Burgunder, which we of course know better as the German translation of the Pinot Blanc grape.
This Weisser Burgunder is a delicious, soft, and fresh white wine. An elegant, dry Weissburgunder with crisp acidity and juicy fruit, it is an ideal food wine but also delicious as an aperitif. The Weingut Geil Weisser Burgunder is pleasantly low in alcohol and has a beautiful, honest grape aroma that often brings to mind, well, grapes, but also apple, pear, quince, apricot, citrus fruits, or fresh pineapple. Creamy on the palate but beautifully crisp on the finish. Refreshing and thirst-quenching. A real crowd-pleaser and suitable for everyone and every moment.
It is certainly also one that pairs perfectly with many (freshwater) fish dishes, such as fried trout and crayfish. But to be honest, we have to say: Dutch asparagus is a wonderful combination with this Weingut Geil Weisser Burgunder. And nowadays, Germany knows that very well too. Go to Germany in the month of May and treat yourself to this!
In any case, at Weingut Geil they ensure that they are not overzealous, but that through German thoroughness, combined with tradition and technical innovation, they can produce a superior product that is contemporary, exquisite, and authentic.
The Rheinhessen wine region distinguishes itself by not focusing solely on the German star, Riesling. They also make grateful use of other indigenous and international grape varieties. A broad portfolio is the result in this region.
Viticulture has a long and proud tradition in Bechtheim. A decree from 1780 by the State Office of the Principality of Leiningen, which stipulated that vines could only be planted in areas where the soil was suitable for producing quality wines, demonstrates that wines from this place were already being offered. The decree also established the specific site names that are still used even today.
