A red Verdejo, that really is something very special. The 100 Cien Montañas uses Verdejo Negro to produce a very pleasant, full-bodied wine with a wonderfully long finish. Fruity, plums, chocolate, toast, and yet fresh! That freshness remains a typical characteristic of these Atlantic cool-climate wines from Cangas del Narcea / Asturias.
The VidAs wine line is made exclusively with selected grapes of the indigenous varieties Albarín Blanco, Albarín Negro, Verdejo Negro, and Carrasquín. This small Asturian region has a humid climate with moderate temperatures that give the wines an Atlantic character. The wine has a deep ruby red color and an intense aroma of ripe red fruit, chocolate, and a hint of spices and herbs. This results in a full and harmonious taste with soft tannins and balanced acidity. This ensures that it can certainly be aged for several years.
Delicious with game and dishes with grilled meat. Lamb, grilled vegetables or fish, stews, large poultry, BBQ, mature cheeses, and so on.
The wines are recognized as High Mountain Wines of Heroic Viticulture: a quality seal that acknowledges the hard work involved in locating vineyards on slopes of more than 30%. Due to these conditions, work in the vineyard is done by hand, without the possibility of mechanical processing. Only two other regions in Spain hold this distinction: Ribeira Sacra in Galicia and Priorat in Catalonia. That makes the 100 Montañas Verdejo Negro VidAs even more special.

The winemaking tradition, present since the 10th century, was lost primarily due to the rise of mining in the region and because many people left the area to work elsewhere in Spain. However, many residents maintained the vineyards as a sort of vegetable garden, as they had been family property for years. Nevertheless, proper maintenance work was neglected, and the vineyards fell into severe disrepair. Bodagas VidAs is a newly established Asturian winery. VidAs is a family project that aims to contribute to the preservation and development of viticulture in the southwest of Asturias.
The unique location of the vineyards, the wetter climate with ample sunshine hours, and the moderate temperatures of the region give these wines a strong Atlantic character. Due to climate change in Spain, the previously negative, difficult aspects of winemaking in Asturias are increasingly disappearing: later ripening and the potentially short harvest period are no longer a problem.
