The Amastuola Primitivo is an organic red wine. A slightly different style from most Primitivos. This is definitely not a typical dark, jammy Primitivo. Amastuola Primitivo from Puglia is somewhat smoother in taste, making it pleasantly easy to drink. This smooth style is reflected in the color: a lighter ruby red. Aromatic notes of red fruit such as plum and cherry mingle with cinnamon. The fresh, medium-bodied taste is reminiscent of red apple, blood orange, and allspice. The finish is long and slightly syrupy. It is ready to drink now but will improve with a few years of cellar aging. Amastuola Primitivo pairs excellently with local Bombette Pugliese, Melanzane parmigiana, and fennel sausage. The winery and the wine are organically certified. From vineyard to bottle!
Masseria Amastuola houses an elegant wine hotel, a barrel cellar, a bookstore, and a restaurant with a terrace. The building, dating back to the 15th century, has been restored to its former glory through a major renovation carried out with full respect for the original structure and materials. Surrounded by an immense vineyard, centuries-old olive trees, and typical dry stone walls, this farmhouse with its enclosed courtyard has preserved all the charm of the past. The farmhouse project was conceived with the intention of creating a point of reference for lovers of wine, fine cuisine, and the beautiful landscapes of Puglia. It features two tasting rooms, eighteen rooms, including four suites, a barrel room, and a beautifully decorated restaurant. Truly a must for your holiday.
DNA analysis has established that Primitivo is the ancient Croatian grape, Crljenak Kašteljanski (as it is spelled… “Tse-rel-Nak Kash-tel-yan-ski”). The grape of Puglia, it has been growing in Southern Italy since the 18th century and migrated to North America a century later as the signature grape of California, Zinfandel.
