Well, actually, it is a beautiful name for a beautiful wine. Made indeed from an indigenous grape variety, entirely native to this region. Also just a tad different, a wine with a nice little rough edge that makes it delightfully exciting. The Ca’Bolani Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is dark red in color with a purple tinge. A soft bouquet of cherry jam with a hint of spices and resin. Hmm, resin—that gives it just that kick… A powerful flavor provides a kind of delightful contrast to the invigorating fruity freshness, while the soft tannins beautifully round off the long finish. The Refosco grape is truly a local variety with unique aromatic characteristics that you won't find in any other grape. And oh… so delicious in the summer after it has sat in the fridge for just an hour. Slightly chilled, the wine gains more fruit and a lovely freshness.
Ca’Bolani is located in the heart of the Aquileia D.O.C. and represents the largest single expansion of vineyards in Northern Italy, with a total area of approximately 550 hectares of vines. In other words… there is plenty! It is truly easy to drink, including the Ca’Bolani Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso.
The wine is truly versatile due to its fruity character. It pairs well with many different dishes and occasions: as an aperitif, with starters, grilled veal, as well as aged cheeses. Thanks to its acidity, it also clearly breaks down the fat beautifully with, for example, short ribs or spare ribs from the BBQ.
In the area around Aquileia, the balance of the mesoclimate is perfect. The moderate breeze from the nearby Adriatic Sea moderates the summer heat. The warmth of the sun ensures excellent ripening of the fruit, and the significant drop in temperature during the night enhances the primary aromas of the grapes, giving the wines an intense personality.
