Cielo 1908 Nero di Gio is a full-bodied Italian red wine with ripe dark fruit, spicy notes, and a smooth structure. This Rosso d’Italia is made primarily from Montepulciano, Negroamaro, and Merlot. The grapes are vinified separately. Subsequently, the wine gains extra depth through aging in oak barrels.

How does Cielo 1908 Nero di Gio taste?

The wine has a deep, dark color and a powerful aroma. You smell ripe blackberries, plums, and black cherries. Additionally, you discover notes of licorice, coffee, spices, and toasted oak. Fresh accents of mint, myrtle, and violets add extra tension to the rich flavor profile. Firm and concentrated with notes of black cherry and blackberry, a touch of cinnamon, and hints of coffee and licorice.

On the palate, Nero di Gio is full and concentrated, yet at the same time supple and velvety. The ripe fruit is beautifully supported by soft tannins and spicy wood notes. The long finish combines power with sufficient freshness. As a result, the wine does not feel heavy or sluggish.

The name Nero di Gio refers to Giovanni Cielo, who laid the foundation for the family business Cielo e Terra in 1908. More than a century later, the fourth generation created this wine as a tribute to the founder. The result is a modern Italian red wine that combines ripe power with freshness and accessibility.

Cielo 1908 Nero di Gio is a versatile food wine. Serve it with roasted red meat, game, pulled pork, or a hearty hamburger. The wine also comes into its own with lasagna, moussaka, meatballs in tomato sauce, and aged cheeses. Spiced dishes likewise suit its full and spicy character.

Serve the wine at approximately 16 to 18 degrees. Briefly decanting helps to fully bring out the dark fruit aromas and spicy nuances.
