Light yellow color, glossy green reflections. Intense nose of fruit with fresh aromas of pear, apricot and lychee. The taste is powerful, with a beautiful balance. A warm, delicate, cheerful wine, with a lovely liveliness of citrus notes. To accompany our Muscat de Rivesaltes Grain de Vigne, nothing is better than a beautiful gourmet fruit dessert that will reflect the sweetness and freshness of the Muscat. The Domaine Lafage Muscat de Rivesaltes is also highly appreciated as an aperitif, for example paired with a carpaccio of scallops. Uh... it all sounds very nice, but simply with a few cubes of ice it is delicious as an aperitif. They do that in France too!
Muscat de Rivesaltes is a ‘vin doux naturel’: a naturally sweet wine. The grapes for this wine are only harvested when they contain a good amount of sugar. During fermentation, in which sugar is converted into alcohol, the winemaker adds extra alcohol. As a result, the alcohol content of the fermenting mass rises instantly to approximately 15 percent. The activity of the yeasts stops. Consequently, unfermented sugar remains, which gives this wine its naturally sweet taste. In addition, there are many primary grape aromas present. That the Domaine Lafage Muscat de Rivesaltes from Muscat is something you can smell and taste it immediately. The Muscat d’Alexandrie grapes are harvested from our vineyard located on terraces around the town of Rivesaltes.
Between the rows of vines in the best vineyards with its red grapes from Lafage, Jean-Marc plants a Muscat vine every ten vines. This grape is not only to our liking, but also to the wild pigs of the area. Towards harvest time, the pigs roam the mountain slopes in search of food. The Muscat is aromatic not only in its grape, but also in its leaves. The pigs find this so tasty as well that they largely leave the other vines used for wine production untouched.
