On the banks of the Danube in the Wachau Valley, you will find the beautiful steep terraces of Domäne Wachau. This Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Dürnstein swirls through the glass with a fresh straw-yellow color and a pronounced bouquet. Green apples, white pepper, and exotic fruit dance on the palate with delicious mineral notes. Well chilled, this is a delightful wine with Mediterranean dishes and stuffed peppers, but also perfect with sushi or sashimi. The name Federspiel is derived from the medieval pastime of falconry. The falcon symbolizes the remarkable elegance in these dry white wines.
The nose fills with intense aromas of ripe pear, elegant spicy notes, white pepper, and white peach. Beautiful aging on the palate with juicy fruit, salinity, refreshing acidity, and smoky tobacco spices on the finish. An excellent accompaniment to Austrian stuffed peppers or Serbian pikeperch, salads with goat or sheep cheese, or beef carpaccio. This Grüner Veltliner also pairs very well with sushi and sashimi.
The grapes of this Grüner Veltliner grow on the steep slopes on the banks of the Danube around the villages of Dürnstein and Loiben. A unique microclimate, thanks to the warm Pannonian air and the poor stony soil, provides the perfect ingredients for a powerful, elegant wine. Viticulture here is entirely vegan and organic, and the grapes are hand-picked. A rigorous selection of the grapes takes place, after which they pass through a pneumatic press. The wine ferments and ages on its own yeast lees in stainless steel tanks.
Domäne Wachau is the most important winery in the Wachau, cultivating superior wine on its more than 420 hectares of vineyards since 1938. The vineyards are situated in the Wachau Valley and are characterized by steep, fertile wine terraces on either side of the Danube. They benefit from a unique microclimate and boast a very diverse terroir. Grüner Veltliner is the primary grape variety planted, the national Austrian pride and a world-class grape variety.
