Wow! An explosion of blossom, ripe stone fruit, and exotic notes, combined with fresh accents and a deliciously creamy texture. This E Guigal Condrieu is a beautiful example of how a Viognier as it should be. As soon as you bring the glass to your nose, you notice aromas of peach, apricot, citrus fruit, and roasted nuts. On the palate, you immediately taste a full, rich, and silky sensation with notes of vanilla, cedarwood, butter, yellow fruit, subtle spices, nuts, and citrus. The long, layered finish has a refined bitterness that elegantly rounds off the taste.
Try the white one as well Saint-Joseph van E. Guigal!
This wine is an excellent choice as an aperitif, but also comes into its own fantastically with foie gras, creamy truffle risotto, shellfish, and delicate fish dishes.
The E. Guigal Condrieu is already delicious to drink at this moment, but it has an aging potential of 5 to 6 years. As the wine ages, it gains more depth and complexity, with the nutty notes becoming increasingly prominent. A wine that develops beautifully and is certainly worth trying.
Condrieu is a prestigious appellation in the northernmost part of the Rhône-vallei in France.
Maison Guigal was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal and has been managed by the family with passion and expertise ever since. Their wines are known worldwide for their outstanding quality and are produced with great care and craftsmanship.
The vineyards are located in Ampuis, where a continental climate prevails with cool nights, which is essential for the aromatic expression of the Viognier. The soil, a mix of sandstone and granite, not only ensures good drainage but also stores heat during the day and gradually releases it at night. This contributes to the ripeness and concentration of the grapes.
Guigal works with respect for nature and employs an organic approach in the vineyards. Yields per hectare are deliberately kept low to maximize quality, and minimal intervention is applied in the cellar, allowing the wine to retain its pure character. All of this results in a refined Condrieu that reflects the essence of the terroir.
