    ‘Lazy’ vines make beautiful wine

The Feudo Montoni Nero d’Avola Lagnusa takes its name from the Sicilian word ‘lagnusa’, meaning lazy. This refers to the ‘lazy vines’ that yield only small quantities. Due to the low volume, the grapes are highly concentrated and of high quality! Exactly what we want to see in a wine.

The Nero d’Avola is a complex wine with juicy aromas of cherry, plum, and blackberry, but also has a delicious spiciness of cinnamon and clove. A very elegant and soft finish where a hint of mint provides freshness. Delicious to pair with BBQ grilled meat, lamb dishes, or aged cheeses.

The grapes grow on very fertile soil thanks to the volcanic rock, which consists of alternating layers of clay and sand. Sicily experiences warm summers and mild winters, which the Nero d’Avola grape loves. The vines at Feudo Montoni are as much as 35 years old and are still rooted in the original rootstocks. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in large cement vats. Following this, the wine undergoes an initial aging of 20 months in these cement vats. The second aging takes place in oak barrels for 4 months, after which it ages for another 4 months in the bottle.

    Feudo Montoni

Feudo Montoni is located in an authentic baglio built in 1469 in the heart of Sicily. The high-altitude vineyards (500-700 m) have a naturally isolated position, allowing the authentic grape varieties to be preserved. Consequently, all grapes come from pre-phylloxera grafted rootstocks. In 1800, Feudo Montoni came into the possession of Rosario Sireci. Rosario rediscovered old vines such as Perricone, Nero d’Avola, and Catarratto. Generations later, Feudo Montoni is in the hands of Fabio Sireci, a descendant of Rosario who in turn took over the winery from his father, Elio. Over the past 30 years, Fabio has continued the work of his ancestors, cherishing the old vines and special grape varieties. Fabio is involved in every step of the production process and works entirely biodynamically.
