Fosso Corno Mayro is a black diamond that is not to be scorned. The name “Mayro” is derived from the word “mavrus,” which means dark or black, and thus recalls the intense color of this wine. Montepulciano. Well… and intense in flavor, that is this wine! The “Mayro” is a warm, round, and velvety wine; full-bodied, intense, delicious with a robust personality. Intense ruby red color. The bouquet is delicate and reminiscent of plums and licorice with plenty of warmth. Plums and sweet cherries on the palate, and no unpleasant harsh edges here. Tannins, yes, but wonderfully ripe and soft. A rough exterior, a pale cherry pit, but with a small heart—this Mayro. This will become a house friend!
The Mayro is produced from 100% carefully selected Montepulciano grapes. The fermentation process, which takes approximately 10 days, is carried out in stainless steel tanks. The Mayro is aged for about 6-8 months in 15 hl French oak barrels. It then spends another 2-3 months in the bottle before being released onto the market. The delicate bouquet is reminiscent of plums and cherries. On the palate, it is ultimately intense, full, and persistent. Any pessimist will become a happy person again after a glass.
Fosso Corno Mayro pairs well with roast meat, hare, venison pepper, and well-aged hard cheeses such as Mimolette, Old Dutch, or a good fresh piece of Parmesan.
The wine farm Fosso Corno it stretches over 30 hectares, spread across a hill in Roseto degli Abruzzi, in the province of Teramo. From one side of the hill, you can admire the beautiful Adriatic Sea, while to the west, you can enjoy the view of the imposing Gran Sasso mountain range. This generous land is characterized by a natural location particularly suitable for viticulture and is known for its wines. These climatic conditions give the grapes a strong aroma and guarantee perfect ripening.
The growing interest in Montepulciano wine prompted the Corno family to buy this farm in 2001.
In 2002, the family removed the old existing vines and 9 hectares of Montepulciano were replanted. Between November 2004 and January 2005, another 11 hectares were planted.
The work, however, is not finished. The stakes go much further.
In the future, Fosso Corno will continue to distinguish itself as a major player in the typical wine of this region, Montepulciano D’Abruzzo. Six years ago, we began carefully managing our vineyards, respecting the soil and plants, through mechanical cultivation. Three machines were purchased to work the land around the vines without damaging them. By moving the soil between the vines, it is possible not only to eradicate weeds but also to remove roots at the surface and aerate the soil, all without having to resort to chemical herbicides.
