The Vajra Langhe Rosso is the Vajra family's flagship wine and simultaneously their calling card. The wine is regarded as one of the best Italian red wines in its price category. Well, it certainly won't be due to a lack of grape varieties...; Barbera, DolcettoNebbiolo, Pinot Nero, and the somewhat lesser-known Freisa grape. And take note: A wide variety of grapes in a single wine is most certainly not a sign of weakness! On the contrary, it adds delicious complexity. Well, we certainly find the Vajra Langhe Rosso to be a *very* delicious synergy! Every care has been taken with the entire process of vineyard cultivation, harvest, and winemaking. The wine is violet-red and has aromas of red fruit and plums, as well as floral and spicy notes. On the palate, a hint of almonds and pepper is added. A pleasantly fresh and very drinkable overall impression. In fact, the bottle is empty before you know it. Great to drink lightly chilled in the summer as well. Order a bottle and you can be sure that the next order will be a case!!
The wine company G.D. Vajra was founded in 1972 by Aldo Vaira. He inherited the vineyards from his grandfather in Vergne, the highest-situated municipality of Barolo. Together with his lovely wife Milena, he built up the company with the goal of producing wine under his own label. The wines are made exclusively from their own grapes. It is truly a family business, as in recent years his daughter Francesca and sons Giuseppe and Isidoro have also become active in the company. Thanks to intensive collaboration with the University of Turin and continuous innovation, G.D. Vajra has built a reputation that places them among the top of Barolo. While Aldo Vaira once started with the family vineyard, the company's holdings have grown over the years to more than 40 hectares. Fortunately, Vajra's range has remained limited to Nebbiolo only; by also planting and harvesting vineyards with Dolcetto and Barbera, among others, they are able to produce wines of very high quality.
