    Special British bubbly!

You don't hear about a sparkling wine from England very often. Yet, these wines can be strongly compared to traditional Champagne! This is because the climate in England, partly due to climate change, is very close to the climate in the French Champagne region. Or rather, to how the climate in Champagne used to be. Nowadays, the Champagne region is very hot and dry, while England benefits from the same hours of sunshine, more rainfall, and slightly cooler temperatures. This Gusbourne Brut Reserve is made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier; the same grapes used in the typical Champagne blend. The weather conditions of the year determine the precise composition, but Chardonnay is usually dominant in the Gusbourne blend. An elegant and round wine, with a lively freshness and a persistent mineral note in the finish.

    Harvest and vinification

Gusbourne's vineyards are located in Appledore, Kent, and in Goodwood, West Sussex. These areas are situated in the south of England, close to the Channel. The soil consists largely of clay, with sand and shells predominating in Kent, and chalky soil with flint loam in Sussex. This provides the beautiful minerality for which Champagne is also known. At Gusbourne, the grapes are pressed immediately after the harvest and allowed to settle naturally for 24 hours. Fermentation then takes place for 10 days in stainless steel tanks. A portion ferments in old oak barrels to create deeper complexity. The Brut Reserve is made using the traditional method, and therefore undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle. The wine ages on the lees for 24 months. Aromas of brioche and bread dough develop during this period. After aging, the lees are removed, and finally, the liqueur de dosage is added.

    Tasting note Gusbourne Brut Reserve

In the glass, this Brut Reserve has a light golden yellow color with a green tinge and elegant bubbles. Aromas of lemon and orange peel, green apple, and peach fill the nose. The beautiful complexity reveals toasted brioche and a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine is elegant and round with a lively freshness and a persistent mineral note in the finish. Delicious with white fish such as halibut or with clams in butter. This sparkling wine also truly comes to life with warm Vacherin cheese with garlic and rosemary. Naturally, it is also the perfect match for fish & chips!
