We were truly surprised when tasting Lunaria Charisma Trebbiano! The first thing you notice when pouring the white wine is that it is slightly cloudy. That is not because the wine is faulty; no, that is actually a very good thing! The wine is slightly cloudy because it is still unfiltered and has not been clarified with animal proteins. It is, after all, a vegan wine, meaning it contains no animal products! The fact that the wine is cloudy takes some getting used to, of course. But the same was true for cloudy apple juice, and that turned out perfectly fine too.
Pick up the glass and smell the free and fresh fruity aromas. On the nose, you smell plenty of ripe yellow fruit and citrus. And now for the moment… take a sip of the wine and let yourself be surprised by the concentrated tropical fruit with some spiciness like rosemary and white pepper. The taste lingers for a long time during the finish. As a bonus, we can also tell you that this winery operates entirely biodynamically and is Demeter certified. Then you will surely understand why we were truly surprised!
Lunaria is a biodynamic winery and affiliated with Cantina Orsogna, a cooperative with over 600 partners in the Abruzzo region. The talented winemaker is Camillo Zulli. All wines produced come from an area located 15 km from the Adriatic coast, close to the Majella, the second highest mountain in the Apennines. The vineyards are situated at an average altitude of between 300 and 450 meters.
We found Lunaria Charisma Trebbiano to be a very beautiful one Trebbiano! Precisely because the wine is unfiltered, it retains more flavor. On the palate, you taste soft, fresh acidity and bitterness, lightly creamy and full of concentrated citrus notes. Followed by a fine, elegant finish. The wine pairs well with pasta and white sauces, vegetarian dishes, lean fish, appetizers, and snacks.
