Is this Italian? That was the first thing we thought when we tasted the white wine Luretta Selin dl’ Armari! An organic Chardonnay aged in oak for 5 years. Dark yellow and rich in the glass. What flavor and what power. Sultry and fresh at the same time. Not a cheap wine, but what quality! A perfect wine for when you want to put something special on the table with friends. Highly recommended.

The Luretta Selin dl’ Armari is a very interesting and atypical Italian Chardonnay. Aromas of ripe pineapple, peach, lemon custard with clove, toasted wood, and vanilla from the oak aging. The taste has a fresh acidity, very good concentration, and a beautiful texture, neither too sharp nor too oily. The finish is very long due to the intense flavor and the oak aging.

Luretta Selin dl’ armari: we did a little jump for joy

‘The secret of Luretta is to let the typicality of the soil and the grape varieties be expressed in the wine.’ In 1993, winemaker Lucio Salamini and his family purchased a number of vineyards on the hills of the Luretta River. The ambition was to produce the best wines in Italy. A tall order when you have no experience in winemaking.

When we discovered the Luretta Selin dl’ Armari, we jumped for joy! This is delicious! It is certainly not a standard ‘rich Chardonnay’ like you often see in California and South America. This wine has a distinct character of its own. The purity of the taste is reminiscent of a ‘vin naturel’, but with great refinement.

Has Luretta's ambition succeeded? There are undoubtedly better (and therefore more expensive) wines to be found, but here, for a good price, you really have something special in your glass. And that applies to all of Luretta's wines. The wines are far from average, but that is precisely what makes them so special.
