What a magnificent wine this Mar de Frades Albariño Atlantico is! And that’s not even mentioning the bottle! An excellent Albariño from Rías Baixas in northwestern Spain with 95 points from Decanter. Expressive, elegant, refined, and juicy with a delightful minerality. A true ode to the Atlantic Ocean. The bottle is a beautiful sea blue with seagulls in relief. You can't ignore this one! A wonderfully luxurious aperitif for lovers of dry Spanish wines. The perfect wine to serve with shellfish and summer salads with asparagus. Cheers!
A pure and expressive glass. Tropical notes fly towards you with fresh flowers and eucalyptus. Mango, pineapple, and lychees combine with wildflowers and briny mineral notes. You only need to close your eyes and you find yourself on a Spanish beach. On the palate, the tropical fruit ripples through with green herbs and fresh lime. Delightfully fresh, dry, and elegant. A plate of oysters certainly wouldn't look out of place here! This is also a delightful glass with a summer salad, smoked salmon, sushi, and shellfish.
The vineyards of this Albariño are located in Rias Baixas in Galicia, in northwestern Spain. The Atlantic breeze brings cooling and, together with the mineral soil, gives the Albariño grape its distinctive character. The grapes undergo a very strict selection in the wine cellars so that only the best specimens are made into wine. A maceration process using CO2 follows so that even the most delicate aromas can be extracted from the grapes. Fermentation takes place naturally on the lees in a controlled environment for the best representation of the Atlantic and mineral aromas.
Mar de Frades is the Galician name for the ‘Sea of Brothers’, referring to the Ría de Arousa where ancient pilgrims moored to continue the road to Santiago de Compostela. This small spot is the source of inspiration for the estate, with the aim of producing wines that reflect the Atlantic Ocean. With their distinctive blue bottles, they leave a clear mark on the map.
