The Montresor Corvina Veronese is indeed a jewel of a wine. A warm, inviting, richly fruity nose, with aromas of fresh morello cherries, ripe plums, and hints of dried fruit. Along with notes of mandarin peel and flowers. It is a very fruity wine where some earthy notes also come into play. Good acidity and subtle, round tannins. The taste is likewise full-bodied with concentrated, crisp black cherries, brown spices, vanilla, and a touch of licorice. Furthermore, it is fully organically certified. You can enjoy this wine during a Netflix evening, but it is also a fine partner. Melanzane parmiggiana or hearty pasta sauces, such as ragù. It also goes really well with grilled flank steak or a lamb stew. Actually, it is simply a delicious glass of wine without any harsh edges.
The illustrious Montresor family moved from France to Italy at the beginning of the 19th century. They settled in the Veneto region near Lake Garda. In 1892, Cantina Giacomo Montresor was founded in Verona and remains a family business to this day. Montresor is an Italian winery with a long history and tradition of winemaking. It traces its origins to Orléans in the heart of France, where Claude de Montresor was a duke around 1600. In 1892, the family moved to Veneto, where they established a winery that is now considered one of the traditional wineries for Amarone and Ripasso.
Montresor's focus lies on the production of DOC wines typical of the region around Verona in the Veneto area: Soave, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Ripasso, and Amarone. In addition, Montresor also produces Prosecco. Montresor is particularly known for its various Amarone wines, sourced from different vineyards, namely Fondatore, Capitel della Crosara, and Satinata (which stands out for its famous black satin bottle). Giorgio Montresor produces a portfolio of wines that increasingly rival the offerings of the more fashionable names in the region – utilizing modern technology to create the best wines from each location, spread across their 100 hectares of vineyards in Valpolicella and Garda.
