Dried fruit, cherry, blackberries, plums, raisins, vanilla, and tobacco. The Montresor Amarone is a delicious example of a modern style Amarone. Rich and warming, yet fresh and balanced, with supple tannins and a rich texture. Presented in a distinctive black satin or felt bottle. This wine is excellent with, for example, wild duck breast or with game, such as venison loin with cranberry sauce. Hard cheeses, especially Parmesan, always pair well.
The “Mula”, the black satin-like bottle containing the Satinato, celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. The bottle has a chic appearance and is filled with a fantastic Amarone. Additionally, it makes a beautiful gift (and, of course, fantastic to drink).
But the special bottle was made this way for a reason. Many years ago, the wines were frequently exported to the United States. This was done by ship. Because wine was not yet considered a luxury product at the time, the bottles were often shipped in open crates on the decks of the ships. Naturally, these were not the best conditions for the wine due to the sun constantly shining on the bottles. Giacomo felt that this could no longer continue and began to modify the bottles. This is how the satin layer on the Montresor Amarone Satinata originated in 1921, to protect the wine during transport against the sun, among other things.
The illustrious Montresor family moved from France to Italy at the beginning of the 19th century and settled in the Veneto region near Lake Garda. In 1892, Cantina Giacomo Montresor was founded in Verona and remains a family business to this day. Giorgio Montresor produces a portfolio of wines that increasingly rival the offerings of the region's more fashionable names – utilizing modern technology to create the best wines from each location, spread across their 100 hectares of vineyards in Valpolicella and Garda.
