The fresh Italian secret from Friuli!

The Monviert Martagona Ribolla Gialla has a pronounced savory mineral aroma paired with the elegant scent of white blossoms. The wine is unusually complex for a Ribolla, elegant and syrupy, with a long finish. The Monviert Martagona Ribolla Gialla is therefore a wonderfully refreshing wine with fish, oysters, and mussels. This is what Italians drink this wine with most often. We also find it delicious as an aperitif due to its freshness. The Montviert wines are specially imported by us personally. And naturally, we would love to share this Italian secret with you.

Italy is known for its local grape varieties. The Ribolla Gialla (=yellow) is one such local hero from Friuli. It is one of the most beautiful grape varieties in this region. Ribolla is a white grape variety that is widely planted in the northeastern province of Friuli in Italy. You can also find this variety in neighboring Slovenia, where it is known as Rebula, and on the Greek island of Cephalonia, under the name Robola. The wines are often characterized by their firm acidity, peach, citrus, and apple notes, and a lightly floral aromatic profile. In Friuli, Ribolla Gialla performs best in Rosazzo and Colli Orientali. There, they primarily produce dry white wines with Ribolla, and occasionally sparkling wines. Ribolla wines are often single-varietal wines. The grape is often combined with varieties such as Pinot Grigio, Friulano, and Malvasia.

The wine has also been reviewed by wine vlogger and oenologist Bart Oomen, among others: read it here… I saw the bottle and thought: “Ribolla Gialla, have I ‘had’ that grape before or not?”

The Montviert house, formerly Ronchi San Giuseppe.

Monviert produces wines in Cividale del Friuli, with Schioppettino, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Picolit, Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, and many others among its best wines. They are located in Spessa di Cividale del Friuli in the province of Udine, close to the Italian border with Slovenia, precisely on the Colli Orientali del Friuli, where the Monviert company owns 18 hectares of vineyards situated between the Julian Alps, which guarantee the grapes ideal protection against cold winds and benefit from the sea breeze coming from the Adriatic Sea. The soils consist of various marl, but also include ponca, gravel, and clay. All of this creates a microclimate and an ideal habitat for the slow and gradual ripening of the grapes and the production of red and white wines of excellent quality.

Today, the Friulian company is a growing wine business in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, and while family management has remained unchanged since the Second World War, having been passed down through three generations, it officially changed its name from Ronchi San Giuseppe to Monviert in 2019.
