‘The little grape’ that they are very proud of in Friuli.

Besides the Sauvignon, Ribolla Giallla, and Franconia, there is also a Monviert Martagona Friulano! If you order a white wine on a terrace in Friuli, the region north of Venice, you are served a Friulano by default. We find it a joy to drink. The Monviert Martagona Friulano is apple-like and slender, with beautiful acidity. Straw-yellow in color with greenish hues, the nose is delicate, with herbaceous hints of hay and almonds. On the palate, it is full and satisfying, without sacrificing finesse. Ideal to enjoy with some San Daniela ham, another world-class wine from the region.

It is produced from Friulano grapes grown in the municipality of Cividale del Friuli. It is the most representative wine of the house, not only because of the white grape varieties cultivated, but also because it is capable of strongly expressing the potential and character of this region, which ranks among the best in the world. After controlled fermentation, it ages for approximately 4 months in stainless steel tanks in contact with the noble lees.

    Tocai becomes Friulano

Friulano means ‘little grape’. The Friulano grows in the Italian wine region of Friuli in the far northeast of the country. It is the most important white grape of this region. Until a few years ago, this white grape was still called ‘Tocai Friuliani’, but that was not appreciated in Tokaj, Hungary. Hungary joined the EU and the name was rectified. Tocai is now reserved for a sweet wine from Hungary. This was not done willingly by the Friulians. The grape is very popular in the region, and many still call it Tocai.

The Friuliano grape produces fresh white wines. Apple-like and slender, with beautiful acidity. Provided it is made well, because if the winemaker simply aims for a high yield per hectare, Friuliano can produce sleep-inducing, boring wine. You can buy one specific Friuliano wine from us, and we consider it a very good one! The exception that proves the rule.

Outside Italy, the Friulano is planted in Slovenia, which borders directly on Friuli, but also, strangely enough, in Chile, under the name Sauvignonasse.
