The Paolo Scavino “Bricco Ambrogio” Barolo 2018 belongs to the top wines of the Scavino family and is an excellent representation of the Nebbiolo grape. This wine has a complex aromatic profile, with powerful scents of cherry, blackcurrants, dried strawberries and rose petals, complemented by a spicy undertone of cloves, spices and leather. The result is a classically balanced Barolo with a long, memorable finish.

When pouring, a rich bouquet of fruity aromas upwards. The influence of the wood aging adds a roasted nuance then, with aromas of hazelnut, cedar and leather. The combination of fruity richness and spicy complexity makes this Barolo versatile, with a long, intense finish. It is a wine that gains more depth with age, whereby the spices and wood tones come to the fore. When drunk young, the fruit reveals itself. But it is recommended to the wine to decant well in advance for optimal drinking pleasure.
The grapes for the Paolo Scavino “Bricco Ambrogio” Barolo 2018 come from the Bricco Ambrogio vineyard in Roddi, a small village in the Piedmont region. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of approximately 275 meter and are oriented towards the south. This ensures optimal sun exposure. The soil consists of a combination of calcareous marl and slate, which contributes to the minerality of the wine. The harvest is manually carried out, usually in the second half of October, when the famous autumn mist, ‘Nebbia’, envelops the vineyards. After the harvest, the grapes are gently crushed and the follows peel maceration and natural fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The malolactic fermentation takes place in large vats during the winter, after which the wine Matures for 10 months in small French oak barrels and after that even 12 months in large oak barrels. After this maturation, the wine goes for 10 months ago on stainless steel before it is bottled, and then it matures further 10 months in the cellars of the estate.
