Jean-Claude Mas is a man who loves a challenge. His story illustrates this perfectly: son and grandson of grape growers, he built a business from a few hectares of inherited vines that, in just a few years, has become a showcase for the renewed reputation of the Languedoc vineyards. His perseverance as a former rugby player did the rest. It is big and beautiful here! The Paul Mas Vignes de Nicole Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot is a prime example of this. It is deep purple with a ruby glow. Elegant and complex with aromas of prunes, forest fruit, and spices. Also notes of licorice and vanilla. Good balance with soft yet present tannins that give the wine bite. Long finish with even more nuances of bitter chocolate. The Vignes de Nicole Cabernet Sauvignon/Syrah sourced from 15-year-old vines on clay and calcareous fossil soil. 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Syrah. 50% of the blend was aged in new oak barrels for 8 months. All in all, a good balance with excellent structure.
A great and very affordable glass for a summer barbecue. Plenty of Provençal herbs over the meat. That completes the combination! Let the whole neighborhood come over; everyone will compliment you on this tasty, robust glass.
The history of Domaine Paul Mas begins over a century ago. Today, the Domaine is managed by Paul’s two sons: Jean Claude and Michel. The philosophy of ‘Les Domaines Paul Mas’ is aimed at preserving the specific characteristics of the soil and grape variety, while simultaneously presenting a wine that meets today’s consumer demands: plenty of fruit, concentration, color, aroma, and flavor. Today, Domaine Paul Mas owns more than 600 hectares of vineyards and collaborates with various growers, giving them an additional 1,312 hectares at their disposal. This allows them access to as many as 40 different grape varieties, both local and international, as well as an incredible range of different soils in the Languedoc.
Paul Mas wines are the result of a symbiosis between an exceptional wine region, a genuine passion for viticulture, absolute respect for the winemaking process, and the art of blending. They produce authentic and affordable great wines, such as the Paul Mas Vignes de Nicole Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, which we claim are an ‘everyday luxury’. Well, tasting is believing...
