Phenomenal Rueda from wine phenomenon Telmo Rodriguez, how could it be otherwise?

Winemaker Telmo Rodríguez is a phenomenon in the Spanish wine world. In 1996, the then very young Telmo went to Rueda to make a good white wine. He wanted to show that Spain is also a country for white wines! Telmo Rodríguez is a versatile winemaker who owns vineyards throughout Spain that combine history, top terroir and quality. In 1996, the then very young Telmo went to Rueda to make a good white wine. He wanted to show that Spain is also a country for white wines! The hills of stony, chalky soil and the native Verdejo-grape variety guaranteed top quality. Telmo's wines are characterized by plenty of fruit, relatively little oak influence, and immense drinkability. Once you try this Telmo Rodríguez Basa Rueda, you will be immediately convinced.

The Telmo Rodríguez Basa Rueda has a very intense aroma that you simply cannot ignore. Passion fruit, melon, and pear, but also spicy fennel seed and a hint of minerals. On the palate, elegant with a slightly creamy mouthfeel; not overly tight, but juicy, fresh, and dry with minerals in the finish. A delicious option for an aperitif, but also great with summer salads with goat cheese or, for example, grilled vegetables. It also pairs well with mussels and other shellfish.

    Telmo Rodriguez, busy little boss!

He studied at the University of Bordeaux and later also worked in the Rhône for the famous August Clape from Cornas. Initially, he was the winemaker at La Granja Senora de Remelluri, his father's bodega in Rioja. However, he wanted to go out and make his own wines, so he got in the car! Telmo lives in Madrid and drives to various projects throughout Spain, where he finds the ideal conditions to produce top wines. Consequently, his wines have quickly found a place on the international stage.

Characteristic of Telmo is his choice of local grape varieties, which are also pruned in a local way. As a result, he works exclusively with ‘bush-vines,’ or vines that are not guided along wires but grow as independent bushes. The bushes are also spaced significantly further apart than with wire guidance. In warm Spain, this has two advantages: every bush finds sufficient moisture, even in dry vintages, and the bunches hang in the shade of their own leaves, so they are less ‘stewed.’ Telmo likes working with old vines so that the roots sit deep to find moisture. Old vines yield a lower harvest, but one of high quality and complexity. This is also the case with this Telmo Rodríguez Basa Rueda. Although not formally certified, Telmo essentially works organically everywhere: he uses no artificial fertilizers or insecticides/pesticides. Telmo is a busy little boss, but just let him get on with it!
