Monteti: a Supertuscan with 3 bicchieri from Gambero Rosso
Unknown to many, but much loved by acquaintances

Monteti Toscano Rosso is the flagship of Tenuta Monteti. Like the estate, it derives its name from the hill that protects the vineyard from the strong direct winds of the Mediterranean Sea, guaranteeing us an ideal microclimate. The wine is composed of the French grape varieties Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Petit Verdot is the personality, the rebellious horse; Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure and longevity; Cabernet Franc is the feminine element that embraces and softens both. Monteti Toscano Rosso ages for 18 months in medium-toasted French oak barriques, 70% of which are new.

The Monteti impresses with its depth and pure, sensual expression of dark fruit. A warm, inviting bouquet leads to dark cherries, asphalt, graphite, tar, and licorice in this rich, dynamic wine. The personality of the Tuscan Maremma shines through very clearly here. The 2008 is once again an incredibly reasonably priced wine from Monteti. It will challenge wines that cost twice (or more) as much! It can certainly be kept in your cellar for 10-15 years. Buy a case! It is wonderful to be able to continue following the development of such a wine. Tenuta Monteti remains arguably the best source for reasonably priced wines in the Maremma. Delicious with a charcoal-grilled Côte de Boeuf. Afterwards, lightly brush with Aceto Balsamico syrup.

Paolo Baratta is a man who can look back on a very multifaceted career. In addition to being a banker, he was director of several important institutions and companies, as well as the Venice Biennale, and he even held several ministerial posts. Yet, ever since his youth, he cherished the dream of making wine. A few years ago, he decided to make this dream a reality. He truly wanted to leave behind something personal and lasting.

    The hill offers protection

Tenuta Monteti – Monteti (425 meters) is the name of the hill that protects the vineyards from the sea wind – comprises 57 hectares, of which 28 hectares are vineyards. It belongs to the municipality of Capalbio, in the far south of the Maremma, close to the border with Lazio. It is not a well-known wine region, although exports from the Roman port of Cosa already took place there in antiquity. Consequently, the terrain had not previously been used for viticulture. The oldest vines date back to 2000. The Tenuta Monteti team consists of young people, including oenologist Christian Coco, who is assisted by the famous consultant Carlo Ferrini. The results are astounding, especially considering the vines are still so young. And this is partly recognized by the (inter)national press.
