The Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore Magnum is also a delicious red wine that just won't run out. It might even be a true weekend wine. Start on Friday, and it will be even better on Saturday with friends. That is because it gets a chance to catch its breath. It is with that little bit of oxygen that it really comes alive. The Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore Magnum is lovely with a meal but can also be enjoyed afterwards. Wonderfully smooth, without any harsh edges. It has an intense ruby red color. On the nose, you smell rich aromas of black pepper and notes of raisins. On the palate, too, ripe blackcurrant/cherry, raisin, licorice, vanilla, and cedarwood. Full and smooth in taste. A hint of vanilla. Take a sip and you taste a full, balanced flavor, very intense, spicy with a touch of sweet cherries. The wine pairs excellently with a tasty rib eye. Or a duck breast glazed with a fine aged balsamic vinegar Vinegar. Naturally, also fantastic in combination with young and aged cheeses. The ideal serving temperature is 16-18ºC. Room temperature of 21 degrees is really too warm. That compromises its freshness.
The Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore magnum has aged in wood for 15 months. For years, this has been a highly sought-after wine among many wine lovers. And we certainly understand why. Tommasi has enjoyed an excellent reputation for winemaking for well over a century. The Tommasi winery from the Veneto was founded as early as 1902. The vineyards are situated in an exceptionally beautiful location with excellent sun exposure. Ripasso is also known as "baby Amarone." This is because the leftover must from Amarone is used to produce Ripasso. A second fermentation occurs with the Amarone must, giving the wine the warm, soft, and full flavor of the Amarone must. As a result, Tommasi's Ripasso acquires an exceptionally full flavor, and all for this price!
Tommasi Family Business
Founded in 1902, the Tommasi family business is located in Pedemonte, a small village in the heart of the ‘Valpolicella Classico’ region, in the northwestern part of Verona-Veneto. The family owns exceptionally beautifully situated vineyards for the production of high-quality wines in the D.O.C. regions surrounding Verona. The area is particularly praised for its incomparable red wines: Amarone Classico della Valpolicella (such as this one), Ripasso, Valpolicella, and Recioto della Valpolicella.
Incidentally, Tommasi produces the Ripasso only in exceptionally good years. Traditionally, the grape trio Corvina is used for the Ripasso, Corvinone and uses Rondinella. After fermentation, the wine ages for 15 months in 65-hectoliter Slovenian oak barrels. This is how they maintain the reputation for which they have been famous for over a century!
