A true classic Rioja that has everything you expect from it. The Valserrano Rioja Crianza is made from a blend of Tempranillo and Mazuelo (Carignan) has a very vibrant black cherry color. It tears up the glass nicely. Lots of concentration in this glass. Within seconds of pouring, subtle nuances of cedarwood and cinnamon appear. When the wine is swirled, it gains intensity, with aromas of stone fruit such as cherries, elderflower, and bay leaf. A “serious” wine with very silky tannins, full of flavor and VOC spices. The finish is long and fresh with hints of dark chocolate and cocktail cherries. The Valserrano Rioja Crianza is truly a classic Rioja. Goes wonderful with a grilled steak but also looks beautiful with a platter. Iberico Belotta Ham.
Bodegas de la Marquesa has been known as Valserrano since time immemorial. This bodega has been producing grapes for a very long time and is one of the most authentic wineries in Rioja. Unlike a number of large bodegas, they use almost exclusively their own grapes, allowing the characteristic features of the climate and soil to come to the fore. Quality control is entirely in-house.
The story of Bodegas de La Marquesa-Valserrano begins in the mid-19th century. Francesco Jauer Solano y Eulate, the ‘Marques de la Solana’, decided, on the advice of a Bordeaux winemaker, to switch to producing quality wines with great aging potential. A good choice, as his wines soon won awards. The house is now in the hands of the De Símon family. The company has grown, the cellar has been modernized, and the market has expanded to 21 countries within and outside Europe. The family devotes itself with utmost precision to the care of the land and the careful crafting of the wines, always with respect for the history and traditions of the region.
The cellars of Valserrano are truly remarkable. They lie deep underground and are therefore always at a constant temperature. They are also over 200 years old. This balanced temperature and humidity create a natural climate in which the wines can age perfectly in oak. Valserrano is located in Rioja Alavesa, the highest and also the best area of Rioja. The grapes grow on the sunny slopes of the Sierra de Cantabria, protected from the cold winds from the north and benefiting from the moderating influence of the Ebro River. Both old and young vines are planted in the vineyards, which together produce a wide range of characteristic wines.
