Perhaps you have heard of the local grape, the ‘Falanghina’, from the area around Naples. However, as we often see in Italy, we are dealing here with a different version of it, namely the Beneventano. This grape was actually only discovered following recent DNA research and exhibits slightly different qualities than its sibling, the "ordinary Falanghina". The Vesevo Falanghina Beneventano is a white wine from the area around Naples, in southern Italy. The grapes grow on volcanic soil originating from Mount Vesuvius in the district. Campania .
The Falanghina Beneventano shows very well the qualities of the place where it is planted. It is a light aromatic grape variety and must benefit from the volcanic terroir on which it is planted. That gives it that extra light mineral bitterness in the aftertaste. The aromas cannot be called very exuberant, but that makes it suitable for many types of lighter dishes. The wine does not easily dominate due to its overly pronounced character. Many people actually like that. The wine has a beautiful sparkling straw yellow color. Delicious field bouquet-like aromas emerge in the nose. The fresh acidity gives the wine a nice tightness. They also provide length in the aftertaste. The tasty mineral bitters really give the wine a kick. A classic example of simply tasty and inexpensive!
This wine is delicious as an aperitif, but of course also with light fish dishes as well as with Caprese Salad. Also delicious with mild, soft cheeses such as Taleggio or Provlone. Furthermore, it is bottled in a charming little, round bottle. Really nice for the table or as a gift.
