Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva

The beautiful red wine Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva is produced by the well-known winery Zenato produced only in excellent vintages. 2012 was such a great year where everything fell into place to create a fantastic Classico Riserva. The color of the wine is intense ruby red, turning garnet red with the passing years. The bouquet is intense, fruity (cherry, Marasca cherry, and small berries), and spicy. The taste is warm, full-bodied, with great structure. The result is a rock of a wine where everything is just right! Dark fruit, chocolate, raisins. Delicious finish! Soft, velvety dark fruit, rich and concentrated, an explosion of aromas: berries, plums, raisins, chocolate, spiciness, wood. Everything is perfect about this wine. Ideal with roasted meat, game, grilled steak, and aged cheeses.

    Vinification

The wine is made from Corvina (80%), Rondinella (10%), Oseleta, and Croatina (10%) grapes. The grapes come from the oldest vineyards of the Costalunga estate in Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella and are strictly selected. The low yields have resulted in a wine of high concentration, with aromas of vanilla and fruit, and an intense and long-lasting taste.

The harvested grapes are first dried for 3-4 months in small trays (only a single layer), well spaced to allow for good air circulation. This causes a large portion of the moisture to evaporate from the grapes, resulting in a proportional increase in sugar content. Pressing takes place in January using a destemming machine and pre-maceration of the skins on the must. Skin contact fermentation lasted 15-20 days. The wine ages in large 75 hl. Slavonian oak barrels for 48 months. Subsequently, the wine develops further in the bottle for another year. This wine can easily be stored for 15 years.
