Organic Pinot Blanc on its way to its rediscovery….

Consequently, this grape has been rather overlooked over the last 10 years, primarily due to the large supply from other countries on the wine market. We find this entirely unjustified, for it is so delightfully uncomplicated to drink. Not intense, always pleasantly light! The Gustave Lorentz Pinot Blanc Réserve comes from calcareous clay soil around Bergheim. Pinot Blanc is a grape related to Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Incidentally, in Germany and Austria this grape variety is called Weißburgunder (and in Italy Pinot Bianco).

    Sunny Alsace

What not many people know is that Alsace enjoys a beautiful dry climate with many hours of sunshine. This is caused by the special mesoclimate in this region, bordered by the Vosges Mountains, which blocks much of the rain coming from the Atlantic Ocean. Consequently, the grapes are optimally ripe when they are harvested. The Gustave Lorentz Pinot Blanc Réserve is delightfully appetizing with a vibrant bouquet of fresh white fruit such as pear, apple, and regular grape. Lightly plump on the palate with just enough acidity. Very easy-drinking and enjoyable for everyone. It is versatile: easy to drink on its own and pairs well with light dishes. Preferably drink young and chilled, up to a maximum of 3 years after the harvest.

Great combinations can be made with regional starters like Flammekuchen and Beackoffe. And of course with Dutch asparagus!

Gustave Lorentz, that doesn't sound French….

The house Gustave Lorentz has been established for generations in the picturesque town of Bergheim, just north of Colmar. Their name originates from the time when this part of France belonged to Germany. That Alsace did change hands quite often... Bergheim is located in the Haut-Rhin department, and thus in the best part of Alsace. The Lorentz family owns 33 hectares of their own vineyards, quite a lot of land by regional standards. This holding also includes plots in several Grands Crus. The jewel in the crown is the plot in the Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim, generally regarded as one of the best plots in the entire Alsace. Gustave Lorentz wines are known for their gastronomic qualities: fresh, dry, and well-balanced. The winery has been certified organic since 2012. The soil contains limestone and marl. This also gives the Gustave Lorentz Pinot Blanc Réserve a certain crispness. Vinification takes place at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks for plenty of freshness.
