This is how a Riesling is supposed to taste. Crisp and fresh, pure, and beautifully balanced. You notice citrus notes of lime, green apple, minerality from wet pebbles, and a hint of apricot and freshly cut grass. The Wittmann Riesling Trocken comes from the Rheinhessen in Germany and is made of 100% Riesling-grapes, carefully selected from steep vineyards. The region is known for its calcareous soils and has an ideal climate for Riesling. The Wittmann Riesling Trocken has an incredibly pure and lively character. It is made in an authentic manner and is also biodynamic. A classic, dry, and clean style. Phillip Wittmann has more than earned his status; one of his wines ranks in the top 5 of the most expensive German dessert wines ever sold. It is no coincidence that this Wittmann Riesling Trocken won the Wines of Germany Worldwide Gastro Cup 2025 in the ‘Best Riesling’ category! It is a paragon of precision and balance. With its refined acidity, fresh citrus aromas, and minerality, it is a wine that showcases the versatility and class of German Rieslings.
The Wittmann Riesling Trocken has a clear, light yellow color. The aroma offers refreshing scents of green apple, citrus, brioche, and a hint of peach. On the palate, you experience a crisp acidity that is perfectly balanced with the fruity notes. Flavors of lime, green apple, and mineral nuances fill the palate. The finish is long and refreshing.
This Riesling is dry, which means it contains little residual sugar, contributing to its fresh character. It is already lovely to drink but can certainly age for a few more years!
At the helm is Phillip Wittmann, a visionary, passionate winemaker (also married to winemaker Eva Clusserath of Angsar Clusserath in the Moselle). The Weingut is a prominent winery with a rich history dating back to 1663. Located in Westhofen, Rheinhessen, the winery combines traditional methods with modern techniques. The Wittmann Riesling Trocken is produced with great care and dedication. All grapes are hand-picked to guarantee the highest quality. After all, the vineyards are so steep that mechanical processing is simply not possible. Following careful pressing, fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures in large, old wooden vats. These do not impart any flavor but contribute to the complexity and aging potential. Weingut Wittmann's wines have been entirely organic since 1988. Phillip's father already considered this important, and Phillip himself went a step further towards biodynamic farming.
