Once opened, there is no stopping the Azienda Agricola Altùris Sauvignon Blanc…. It goes down so smoothly. Truly a top-notch hit! The Altùris Sauvignon this is a very elegant white wine from Friuli, Italy. It is situated right on the border with Slovenia. So, truly in the far east of Northern Italy. The color is bright light yellow with a green sparkle. The aroma is pleasant and certainly not too intense. Just nicely vibrant enough. Friendly aromas of grapefruit, gooseberry, and some exotic fruit. Subtly, there is also a hint of sage, tomato leaf, and mint, which are blended with fruity hints of grapefruit and exotic fruit. On the palate, it is fresh, enveloping, and savory. The flavors are beautifully present but certainly not overly exuberant. The citrus nuances come through nicely, along with some pineapple and a touch of peach. The finish is soft and very pleasant. The glass is empty before you know it. Go ahead and fill the glass again for that cozy get-together... and hey... just that Depeche Mode song coming from the speakers... Coincidence? But surely that doesn't exist...
Naturally, it is also delicious at the table with Dutch white asparagus, but also green asparagus in a fresh herb dressing. Great with the goat cheese salad (without the honey) and also delicious with Ceviche with a mango salsa.
In the Friuli language, Altùris means a piece of land situated slightly above the surrounding landscape. The owners of Cantina Alturis, Marco and Massimo Zorzettig, gave this name to the estate. They have been active in the wine world for three generations. The Altùris estate is located in the heart of northeastern Italy, not far from Venice and close to the borders with Austria and Slovenia. The microclimate here is unique. The Alps protect the area from cold northern air currents, while the wind from the Adriatic Sea is mild; this creates ideal conditions for producing great Italian wines from quality grapes. 70% of the production is dedicated to white wines and 30% to red wines.
