The Boutinot Les Coteaux Schisteux Seguret is among the best wines of Côtes du Rhône-Villages! The Boutinot Les Coteaux Schisteux Seguret is ruby red in color due to the large proportion of Grenache. The aroma is explosive, rich, and opulent. You smell exotic spices, black fruit, cracked black peppercorns with hints of vanilla. The palate is attractive, smooth, with depth and structure. The finish is satisfying in terms of both length and depth. A classic Rhône with structure and finesse.
High above the slopes in the rugged mountainous region of Séguret lies a single vineyard planted predominantly with Grenache Noir, with occasional Syrah. The soil consists of hard rock (a type of stone) and calcareous terraces. Here, on vines 50 years old and older, the grapes enjoy the warm morning sun. Grenache Noir and Syrah can only be harvested by hand in this unforgiving terroir.
The fermentation proceeds along the same natural lines: wild yeasts naturally initiate the fermentation. Therefore, no manual addition of yeasts. After fermentation, the wine spends 22 months in French oak barrels.
Paul Boutinot has joined the illustrious company of the “Rhône Riders”. With Eric Monnin (Boutinot’s French winemaker) by his side, they are storming the southern villages of the Côtes du Rhône in their search for – perfect terroir and partners with flexible facilities for the vinification and aging of the wines. The search has yielded exceptional “single village” wines and an exquisite Côtes du Rhône Village. Sourced from Séguret and Cairanne, among others, and parts of Roaix, St. Gervais, and Sablet. Eric Monnin vinifies each plot separately and subsequently ages the wines in a combination of new barrels, older barrels, and demi-muids (600 liters). The rigorous selection and pursuit of perfection result in stunningly beautiful Rhône wines, where each wine in itself provides a magnificent reflection of the terroir.
