Fresh and pure Pinot Bianco from the Italian Alps.

The Girlan Platt & Riegl Pinot Bianco possesses all the refreshing and exciting characteristics of their “entry-level” Pinot Bianco. However, it adds a little more depth and ripeness to the fruit used. Sweet yellow flowers, hints of peach, white pepper, and smoke form the bouquet. Meanwhile, the expression shifts towards notes of apple with a savory touch of wild herbs on the palate. There is a beautiful finish of tart lime, minerals, and flowers. For this wine, they use only the best Pinot Bianco grapes. These are grown in the Oberetsch at an altitude of 450–550 meters above sea level, in well-ventilated vineyards. The various soil combinations—clay, limestone, and gravel—give the wine a unique character. The Girlan Platt & Riegl Pinot Bianco pairs very well with starters and seafood dishes. Highly appreciated as an aperitif.

This wine comes from a single vineyard named Platt & Riegl, situated at an altitude of 550 meters above sea level in the gravelly, mineral-rich soils of the Appiano Monte. The area is considered one of the most important terroirs of Alto Adige. This is one of the most beautiful vineyards. Here, in the shelter of the snow-capped Mendola mountain, the sun-drenched, rocky soils and the altitude make a significant contribution to the style of the wine. The old vines, hand-picked, partial malolactic fermentation, and partial vinification in large oak (50% in 5,000L barrels). All these influences result in a more textured, satiny, and mineral wine than you would normally get from this variety.

Girlan is one of the finest grower collectives in the spectacular Alto Adige of Northern Italy, a stone's throw from the Austrian and Swiss borders and surrounded by those strange jagged Dolomites, which produce exemplary white and red wines. Moreover, they have long encouraged their growers to focus on those varieties best suited to their soil, aspects, and altitudes, and they have paved the way for single ‘municipality’ and single vineyard wines. Girlan was also one of the first collectives in Alto Adige to pay its growers based on the quality of their fruit and applies strict controls on yields.
It is important to understand the central role that collective viticulture has played in Alto Adige. For a number of reasons, including geographical isolation, mountainous topography, and small-scale farms, local growers united in the past to form cooperatives. More than 70% of the region's wines are produced by such cooperatives. Several, including Girlan, manage a magnificent range of the best sites in the region. The wines are among the most awarded wines in the region and are available in more than 30 countries worldwide.
