    Britse Blanc de Blancs!

You don't come across a wine from England very often, let alone a Blanc de Blancs. Yet, these wines can be strongly compared to a traditional Blanc de Blancs from Champagne! This is because the climate in England, partly due to climate change, is very close to the climate in the French Champagne region. Or rather, to how the climate in Champagne used to be. Nowadays, the Champagne region is very hot and dry, while England benefits from the same hours of sunshine, more rainfall, and slightly cooler temperatures. Just like in the Champagne region, this Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs is made from 100% Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. A lively wine with intense complexity and a persistent mineral note in the long, elegant finish.

    Harvest and vinification

Gusbourne's vineyards are located in Appledore, Kent, and in Goodwood, West Sussex. These areas are situated in the south of England, close to the Channel. The soil consists largely of clay, with sand and shells predominating in Kent, and chalky soil with flint loam in Sussex. This provides the beautiful minerality for which Champagne is also known. At Gusbourne, the grapes are pressed immediately after the harvest and allowed to settle naturally for 12 to 24 hours. Fermentation then takes place for 10 days in stainless steel tanks. A portion ferments in old oak barrels to create deeper complexity. The Brut Reserve is made using the traditional method, and therefore undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle. The wine ages on the lees for 33 months. Aromas of brioche and bread dough develop during this period. After aging, the lees are removed, and finally, the liqueur de dosage is added.

Tasting note Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs

In the glass, this Blanc de Blancs has a golden yellow color and elegant bubbles. Aromas of lemon, grapefruit and orange peel, green apple, and peach fill the nose. White blossom, pear, ginger, and cardamom provide the second layer, with a hint of roasted hazelnuts. Beautifully complex in aroma and taste! On the palate, the wine is lively, intense, and complex, with a persistent mineral note in the long, elegant finish. Delicious with shellfish, such as oysters, of course, or for example, langoustine with saffron mayonnaise or scallop ceviche. Also a wonderful wine with vegetarian or vegan dishes, such as roasted cauliflower with a lemon and caper dressing.
