For the Luigi Einaudi Barolo Cannubi provides you with so much delicious satisfaction after several years of aging in the cellar and/or climate-controlled cabinet. A Barolo has firm yet velvety tannins and is characterized by exuberant and recognizable aromas of rose petals, dried red fruit, and spices. The finish is long with notes of tar and spiciness. A delicious, plump wine with tons of dark fruit, sweet spices, and flowers. The wine has a medium body and reveals a delightful depth in an easy style. The tannins remain somewhat firm, but there is more than enough fruit to ensure balance. Another year or so in the bottle should help smooth out the slight rough edges currently present. Please note: This wine has a drinking window of +25 years. So there is no need to rush. The Luigi Einaudi Barolo Cannubi is also an ideal wine to give to your child later on, if they were born in this top Barolo vintage of 2016.
Cannubi is the place where it all began for Barolo. After all, the oldest known Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont bore the name Cannubi on the label, not yet Barolo. To this day, this mythical place is renowned for the high quality and recognizable effect of its unique microclimate. Surrounded by higher hills, the vineyards are well protected, and the grapes ripen here slightly earlier than average. As a result, a special microclimate prevails, and the grapes ripen just a little earlier than average.
James Suckling: 96/100 points
Wow. This is archetypal Barolo with a solid cylinder of polished tannins running through the center of the wine from start to finish. Full-bodied and wonderfully constructed with the tannins and beautiful fruit in all the right places. Dark fruit, dried earth and mushrooms with mild, hazelnut notes. Fantastic is the word to describe it. Endless finish.
Jancis Robinson: 18/20 points
Gorgeous nose, very expressive – classic. More powerful than the other cuvées from this producer in 2016 and still a little unrelenting. Needs lots of time but has all the power and fruit as well as freshness and impressive structure.
