The little sweet one… indeed, that is the translation for this grape. Also because it contains slightly less acidity and therefore comes across as a bit easier and sweeter. But it can do more! The Dolcetto-grape can express more complexity and richness and age well. Legislation already sets a minimum aging period of one year for the Superiore version. It is a mouthful… But this Luigi Einaudi Vigna Tecc Dolcetto di Dogliani Superiore is a high-quality wine that ages well. It is deep ruby red with violet hues and has a fresh, rich, fruity bouquet. Also full of intense forest aromas, pleasant tannins, and a light almond-like finish. Dry and with moderate acidity. After a year of aging in wooden barrels and two months of refinement in the bottle, it has a good body and full flavor. A long almond finish, typical of this wine.
It shares the same basic characteristics as the highly regarded Dogliani Docg, notable for grapes from the best vineyards in the Einaudi estates, situated on the “sorì” (south-facing) of Madonna delle Grazie in Dogliani. The grapes for this prestigious Dolcetto Vigna Tecc come from the oldest vines in Dogliani. This is a gastronomic wine! It pairs well with fine meat dishes, such as game and preparations with truffle.
Poderi Einaudi was founded by Luigi Einaudi. He was an economist, journalist, and, after World War II, actually the first president of Italy. Since 1990, the wine company has been in the hands of his great-grandson Matteo Sardagna, who in turn took over the business from his mother Paola. At Einaudi, the guiding principle regarding the selection of vineyards is that ‘a great wine can only come from a great vineyard and great terroir’. In this regard, the San Luigi cru in Dogliani and Cannubi, and Terlo and Bussia in Barolo, capture everyone's imagination. Since Matteo took the helm, significant strides have been made within the wine company. A new cellar featuring proven vinification materials with a modern twist, such as terracotta amphoras, new vineyards in Barolo, and organic vineyard management are just a few examples.
Poderi Einaudi is a dynamic winery that aims to express the characteristics of the multifaceted terroir in Dogliani and Barolo in both classic and modern ways.
