The design of the Malandrin Bobo Verdejo label may be simple, just like the name. You might think it is an accessible wine. But you would be mistaken about that with the Malandrin Bobo Verdejo. This Rueda offers so much more than many of its peers. Bobó Verdejo wine differs from the vast majority of straightforward Verdejos on the market. The wine has a very attractive appearance, with a yellow-orange color between dark gold and bronze, and dense tears. On the nose, it opens with notes of ripe apple and floral touches of acacia blossom. Floral and fruity flavors that travel from the nose to the palate complete a very clean, balanced wine with a length that begs you to pour another glass. A good balance between acidity and sweetness. The Malandrin Bobo Verdejo is aged for 8 months on its lees in amphorae for greater roundness.
Malandrin Wines is located in the province of Zamora in the region of Castile and León. Roberto Martínez Ramos is the winemaker at Malandrín Wines. The production volumes of this winery are deliberately kept low. They always work with respect for the grape varieties and the terroir. His motto is “Great wines at affordable prices”.
Roberto Martínez Ramos and his partner Belén founded Malandrín Wines with the aim of establishing their own project and producing great wines of limited production. In their wines, they try to bring out the originality and distinctive characteristics of each variety and each vineyard. Roberto sees himself as the conductor of an orchestra; he conducts the microscopic symphony of the winery's most important workers: the yeasts. Old vineyards, poor soils, and an extreme climate are the ideal conditions for the production of great, unique, characterful wines.
Minimal intervention applies in the vineyard, and they have old vines on poor soils. Grape varieties grown and cherished here are Tempranillo, Verdejo and Godello. In the winery, Roberto uses traditional methods such as amphorae or wooden barrels and aging on the lees to give optimal quality to particularly captivating wines. Roberto produces wines that are virtually sulfite-free; wine naturally contains a small amount of sulfite, and if it is not necessary, nothing further is added.
