Austrian red from the Pfaffl winery, one of the best producers from Austria!

This Pfaffl Zweigelt vom Haus really puts you in a good mood. If the temperature is high, you can also enjoy it slightly chilled – perfect! Delightfully harmonious, very clear in its pronounced fruit, ripe and round. A truly velvety red wine that can also be drunk on its own. Deep ruby red. Fully ripe black cherry on the nose. The cherry also inspires with incredible intensity on the tongue. A spicy, piquant note reminiscent of the barrel aging period rounds off the pleasure in the mouth and accompanies the long finish to the end. It is all deliciously juicy, full, round fruit and spicy in taste, wonderfully smooth and with ample body.

The Pfaffl Zweigelt vom Haus harmonizes perfectly with Mediterranean dishes. Spaghetti bolognese, aged bresaola, minestrone with white beans and a piece of Parmesan all feel at home with this red wine. Pfaffl wine also cuts a fine figure on its own. It pairs well with the festive table on Christmas Eve, family birthdays, and summer barbecues with friends.

    Weingut Pfaffl

Since the late 1970s, the Pfaffl winery has stood for classic enjoyment of a high standard. Located in the southern Weinviertel, the estate's sites benefit from the region's unique microclimate. Both white and red wines are produced here.

At this ‘weingut’, nothing is left to chance; everything is dedicated to quality. No chemicals are used in the vineyard, and the grapes are harvested in small crates to prevent damage to the fruit. In the cellar, pumping is never done – the wine is moved by gravity to subject the young wine to as little stress as possible. If anyone in the Weinviertel district has played a pioneering role when it comes to quality, it is Weingut Pfaffl.

Lower Austria is the region surrounding the capital Vienna and is the largest wine-growing area in Austria. And it is in this place that Roman and Adelheid Pfaffl cultivate their wines. The unique soil structure of loess soils, and the ideal climate where warm days alternate with cool nights, ensure excellent grape ripening. This is also true for Austria's most important red grape: Zweigelt. Wines made from this grape variety are known for their fresh and fruity character. The Pfaffl winery was founded by the Pfaffl family more than 30 years ago. As a winemaker, Roman not only wins many awards, but the house has also been named the best in Austria on multiple occasions! And we can only agree.

In 2020, the Pfaffl winery was awarded the special “BEST PRODUCER AUSTRIA” prize by the international MUNDUS VINI wine award.

    Austrian wine:

In Austria, 40 grape varieties—26 white and 14 red—are officially recognized for the production of quality wine. The wide variety of characteristic indigenous grape varieties, in particular, yields wines with a distinctly individual character. Fortunately, there is no trend in Austria to abandon native varieties in favor of more internationally known varieties such as Chardonnay and Merlot. The winemakers know the qualities of their “own” grape varieties and are proud of them.

The most important white grape varieties include Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Riesling, Weissburgunder (= Pinot Blanc), and Muscat-Ottonel. The most important red grape varieties include Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent, and Blauer Portugieser. Red wine production has increased significantly in recent years. Currently, approximately 68% white wine and 32% red wine are produced. In Austria, 36% of the total vineyard area is planted with Grüner Veltliner and 8% with Zweigelt. This makes both grape varieties the most widely planted in this beautiful wine country. 75% of the total wine production is consumed domestically.
