Full of dark red and black fruit; lots of cassis. Delicious spices like black pepper and some herbs. And naturally somewhat earthy (clay, stone) and some notes of wood. Nicely balanced in terms of acidity and tannins. Wonderful wines, and at a very good price too. The San Marzano Il Pumo Primitivo is a red wine characteristic of Puglia.
Also try the Il Pumo Negroamaro! Or the rich blend the Tr3 Pumi.
The Primitivo grapes grow in full sun in the warm Puglia and deliver a nice, full flavor. You can taste that the Primitivo The grapes were picked at full ripeness, giving it its full, ripe flavor. Moreover, the picking is done manually, allowing an initial selection of the best bunches to take place in the vineyard. The juicy grapes impart an aroma of cherries, spices, rosemary, and vanilla to this wine. Truly a full-bodied, soft, and intense wine that provides a very pleasant mouthfeel.
To produce this fantastic wine, the winemaker applies skin maceration for 10 days to extract the flavors from the skins. After alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperatures, the wine ages for several months on its own yeast (sur lie). The wine has a dark color and aromas of cherries, spices, rosemary, and vanilla. San Marzano Il Pumo Primitivo is a full-bodied, soft, and intense wine that provides a very pleasant mouthfeel. An excellent match with red meat, game, and mature cheeses.
The wine is made by Cantine San MarzanoA wine company known for its quality wines. In 1962, 19 winegrowers from San Marzano joined forces and founded “Cantine San Marzano”. Much has happened since then, as today this cooperative numbers more than 1,200 growers. They utilize modern and technologically advanced facilities while preserving the very old wine tradition of Puglia.
San Marzano is located in Puglia, a peninsula between two seas (the Ionian and the Adriatic). The San Marzano vineyards are situated at an altitude of 100 meters above sea level. The provinces of Taranto and Brindisi offer a flat landscape and, moreover, an extreme climate: heat, drought, frost, and a strong Sirocco wind. Nevertheless, these passionate winemakers ensure that even grapes from the oldest vineyards yield full-bodied and elegant wines.
