    Full-bodied, rich Italian

The San Marzano Talò Primitivo di Manduria is an elegant red wine that is beautifully balanced. Full-bodied, powerful, velvety smooth with plenty of sun-drenched, ripe red fruit. The wine ages for 6 months in French and American oak barrels. A wine that scores highly in wine competitions. The Talò Primitivo, for example, received 95 points from the renowned wine critic Luca Maroni.

The popular SUD primitivo di manduria is now available from us again.

Tasting note Talò Primitivo di Manduria

Upon opening this bottle, the delicious aroma of cherries and vanilla wafts towards you. The wine has a beautiful, concentrated, deep ruby red color. Swirl the San Marzano Talò Primitivo in your glass. The wine is nice and full-bodied and intense. The scent of sun-ripened red fruit, vanilla, chocolate, cherries, spices, and even amaretti biscuits! Close your eyes and you are in Italy. At a long table with friends. A wine that makes you crave another glass! So watch out!

The grapes for the Talò are hand-picked in the second week of September, followed by maceration of the must (80% for 18 days and a short week longer for the remaining 20%). The juice is then fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Tip: This fantastic red Talò pairs well with hearty starters, lamb and game, red meat with rich sauces, and hard cheeses.

Vineyard of the Talo Primitivo di Manduria D.O.P.

The vineyards can be found in and around San Marzano, close to the town of Manduria in Puglia. The Italian region of Puglia lies between the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic Sea. The wine comes from the D.O.P. Primitivo di Manduria area. The vineyards are planted at 100 meters above sea level. There are 5,000 vines planted per hectare, and the harvest is carried out entirely by hand in the second week of September. In the vineyard, grapevines and olive trees stand together on a red soil surface of clay and rock.

The vineyard soil and the Mediterranean terroir play a fundamental role in the production of San Marzano's high-quality wines. The climate is extreme, with drought, even frost, and the fierce local sirocco wind. However, with proper vineyard management, this actually results in highly concentrated grapes, producing full-bodied and elegant wines.

    Cantine San Marzano

In 1962, 19 winegrowers from San Marzano joined forces and founded “Cantine San Marzano”. Today, this cooperative numbers more than 1,200 growers and utilizes modern and technologically advanced facilities without compromising Puglia’s very old wine tradition. San Marzano is located in Puglia, in the heart of the highly acclaimed DOC “Primitivo di Manduria”, between two seas (the Ionian and the Adriatic).

The soil of the vineyard in Puglia consists mainly of clay and rock. 5,000 vines are planted per hectare and the harvest is carried out entirely by hand in the second week of September. Skin maceration for 18 days for 80% of the total and 25 days for the remaining 20%, followed by temperature-controlled fermentation. This Talò Primitivo di Manduria ages for 12 months in French and American oak barrels.

Talò Primitivo di Manduria pairs well with hearty starters, lamb, game, and red meat with rich sauces and hard cheeses.
