The origin of the name Decugnano is unclear and has been lost over the centuries. However, as early as 1212, these lands were producing wine for the clergy of Orvieto. They were the land of the church of Santa Maria di Decugnano at the time. In 1973, Claudio Barbi found Decugnano deserted and immediately fell in love with it. The first wines were released in 1978, and the success was immediate.

Decugnano dei Barbi is a winery that boasts enviable records: having created the first classical method in Umbria in 1978 and having invented the first muffato in Italy in 1981. All this is thanks to the will of Claudio Barbi, who established the home of his creation in this corner of paradise in the Orvieto countryside in the early 1970s. Anyone visiting Fossatello di Orvieto today can therefore enjoy a piece of history; a history now entrusted to Enzo Barbi, characterized by elegant and courteous manners, great culture, and consistency with the family project.
