A beautiful and accessible Orange Wine from Spain

Orange, citrus, apple, something nutty with a full body and a long finish. Very well made! The Punctum 20,000 Leguas Orange Wine is a great option if you are looking for something special. This wine is a unique yet exquisite style of white wine. Orange Wine, you may have heard of it, but what exactly is an “orange wine”? “Orange” wine refers to wine made from white grapes that does not immediately produce a typical white wine as we know it. The wine has a somewhat amber color due to prolonged contact with the grape skins. The skins of the white grapes remain in contact with the fermenting grape juice – just as with red wine.

Tasting note and food pairing

The aromas of the fully biodynamic Punctum 20,000 Leguas Orange Wine range from tropical fruit to apples with hazelnuts and dried fruit. It is beautifully complex with a lovely structure, elegant soft sweet tannins, and refreshing acidity. Apricot and orange peel, beeswax on the nose. It is the excellent companion, with both structure and acidity, for a wide range of exotic dishes such as an Indian curry or, for example, a Moroccan tagine. In any case, it loves oriental spices!

The 20,000 Leguas grapes were harvested at night and cold-macerated to guarantee the freshness and acidity of the wine. Subsequently, the wine was fermented with its skins, giving it a beautiful pale orange color. Another aspect is the fact that it is both vegan and organic. This means that no chemicals were used on the vines and that no artificial additives or animal by-products were added during winemaking.

Dominio de Punctum

Dominio de Punctum literally means ‘the estate at the crossroads’. The winery is situated in Las Pedroñeras, at the intersection of the cities of Cuenca, Ciudad Real, and Albacete. It was founded in 2005 by the Fernández Cifuentes family. Dominio de Punctum is now the most awarded organic winery in Spain producing modern wines. Dominio de Punctum’s mission is to offer affordable quality. For white wine, they employ a pure, easy-drinking style. With red wines, they seek a somewhat more complex, distinctive style.

Outside La Mancha the winery also produces a number of stylish wines in other Spanish regions using the grape varieties that are the pride of the area: Mencia from Bierzo, Bobal from Ribera del Júcar, Viura from Yecla, and the surprising Punctum 20,000 Leguas Orange Wine.

Organic and Demeter certified, and that is an achievement!

From its inception, Dominio de Punctum has had the ambition to change that. The winery now owns more than 250 hectares of vineyards that are fully(!) organic and partially biodynamic (Demeter) certified.
