    Surprising Spanish-French Combination

Tempranillo is of course the Spanish grape! But that French one Petit Verdot, uh, what is that then? Petit Verdot is a grape variety that originates from Bordeaux, but leads a somewhat marginal and supporting existence there in favor of the big boys Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It is a late-ripening grape variety that often does not ripen well, or at all, in Bordeaux. In the warm summers of La Mancha, however, it ripens exceptionally well. It isn't just a few degrees warmer here. The Petit Verdot is harvested there in late September, early October, in the cool of the night. They undergo cold maceration, and then fermentation starts at a controlled temperature of 28 degrees in stainless steel tanks. Here, however, its serious nature and heavy tannins really add something to the Punctum Viento Aliseo Tinto.

The cheerfully fruity Tempranillo gains the depth from this that many of its peers in this price range lack. Hubrecht Duijker, our legendary wine critic, describes it as: “Dark notes (liquorice, leather, bay leaf) and, together with generous black fruit and a hint of vanilla, define the aroma of this robust, supple wine. That, dear amigos, will go well with, among other things, barbecued meat.” Well Hubrecht, we’d love to pull up a chair!

    Dominio de Punctum Biodynamic

The Punctum Viento Aliseo Tinto comes from two organic vineyards, Finca el Fabián and Las Pedroñeras, in La Mancha, Spain. The vines are 10 years old. It is hot and cool in La Mancha, which makes the area very suitable for organic viticulture. The current winemaker is Ruth Fernández Cifuentes. Ruth has the challenging task of safeguarding the quality of 250 hectares of vineyards. She monitors whether everything meets the aspects of organic and partially biodynamic viticulture, without losing sight of the price aspect. For the mission of Dominio de Punctum is to offer affordable quality. For white wine, a pure, drinkable style, while for the red wines, a somewhat more complex, distinctive style is sought.

The winery now owns more than 250 hectares of vineyards that are fully(!) organic and partially biodynamic (Demeter) certified. For example, the Viento Aliseo range is Demeter certified.
