This Nero d’Avola Appassite from Vanitá has everything we want from an Italian red wine. Soft, luscious, sun-drenched fruit with a full body and delicious spiciness. This Sicilian Nero d’Avola is a wonderfully luscious flavor bomb with a nice dose of spices thanks to the oak aging. Pure enjoyment!
Before the grapes are harvested, they are first dried on the vine for 15 days. This results in an incredibly concentrated flavor with a higher sugar content, which you can taste in the wine! Aromas of red fruit, chocolate, and a hint of vanilla dance in the glass. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, soft, slightly sweet yet beautifully balanced with smooth tannins. The oak aging gives the wine an interesting depth, a nice dose of spices, and a long finish.
The vineyards of this Nero d’Avola lie on the beautiful island Sicily where a dry, Mediterranean climate prevails. Nero d’Avola is one of the island’s indigenous grapes and is known for its fruity, full flavor with delicious spices. Particularly distinctive to this wine is the “Appassite”. Comparable to a Amarone the grapes are dried for 15 days. For this Nero d’Avola, this takes place on the vine. During this process, the grape loses a large portion of its moisture, which intensifies the aromas and sugar content. It enhances the softness and complexity of the wine. After the harvest, the grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks, after which they age in both French and American oak barrels.
