Matsu La Moza – fresh Spanish white wine with character from Rueda

The Matsu La Moza is a fresh, juicy white wine from the renowned Spanish winery Matsu. This wine is made from Verdejo and comes from the Rueda region, the origin of the finest Spanish white wines. On the glass, there is plenty of fruit and a subtle spiciness. The style is dry, fresh, and slightly mineral. Ideal as an aperitif, but also surprisingly robust at the table.

Matsu has a series of five wines, each with a face on it. Three red wines with men on them, and two women for the white wines. Each face has a meaning. La Moza means “The girl / the young woman”. These wines are very popular in Spain.

La Moza is a unique blend of primarily Verdejo (85%), supplemented with Malvasía Castellana (13%) and small quantities of Godello, Albillo, Palomino, and Viura. The Verdejo vines are 10 to 20 years old, while the other white varieties come from very old vineyards (50 to 150 years old) on poor sandy soils with a high granite content.

Taste and style: fresh, aromatic and slightly spicy

Matsu La Moza has a bright light yellow color. The aroma is open and inviting. You smell citrus, lime, and white fruit. These are followed by notes of fennel and a light spiciness, typical of Verdejo. On the palate, the wine is fresh and juicy. The acidity is beautifully balanced. This makes for a thirst-quenching style:

    • Citrus and lime
    • Green apple and pear
    • Light spiciness and fennel
    • Fresh, mineral finish

Why Matsu La Moza is a good choice

This wine combines freshness with character. That makes it versatile. Not too heavy, but not simple either. The Verdejo grape provides tension and aromatic complexity.

    • Nice and refreshing and easy to drink
    • Aromatic without being sweet
    • Ideal as an aperitif
    • Good value for money

If you are looking for a crisp white wine with a bit more character than standard Sauvignon Blanc, you have come to the right place.

    Wine & food: versatile

Matsu La Moza is a true all-rounder. The fresh acidity makes it suitable for many dishes.

    • Salads and light dishes
    • Fish and shellfish
    • Tapas and snack boards
    • Sushi and Asian cuisine
    • Goat cheese and soft cheeses

Even without food, this wine remains wonderfully refreshing.

The style of Matsu: modern and sustainable

The winery Matsu Toro is known for natural viticulture and minimal intervention. The grapes are carefully harvested to preserve freshness. Fermentation takes place at a low temperature so that the fruit and aromas are retained.

Matsu means “patient balance” in Japanese. Matsu is inspired by the Japanese tradition of caring for nature in purity and simplicity. It is a tribute to the Spanish wine tradition. All wines are made from grapes grown in a completely natural environment, using biodynamic techniques.
